How to Create a Photo for Your Visa Application

Your Tanzania visa application must include a recent (within 3 months) passport-style photo. We recommend you use a passport photo app on your phone to create the photo. We have provided instructions below on how to use our favorite passport photo app. You can also create the photo manually (ask your favorite AI for instructions) provided it is compliant with the Visa Photo Requirements at the bottom of the page.

Passport Photo – ID Photo App Instructions

  1. Install and Open the Passport Photo – ID Photo App

  2. Select Document Type

    • On the home screen, select New Photo. for the option to choose your document type.

    • Enter Tanzania in the search box

    • Select Tanzania Passport.

  3. Take a Photo

    • Tap on Camera to take a new photo.

    • It is best to have someone take the photo of you though it is possible to take a selfie.

    • Position yourself in good lighting, in front of a plain background.

    • Keep your head straight, eyes open, and maintain a neutral expression (no smiling or tilting).

    • Ensure your entire face is visible and centered in the lines on the screen.

    • Take the photo and confirm if it looks good.

  4. Adjust and Confirm

    • Click on Start Editing, make any adjustments

    • Click on Next till you reach the screen that shows the size of photo and your face within it. Move and resize the photo until your head fills the alotted space.

    • Click Next until the Save option appears in the upper right corner.

    • Make sure JPEG is the selected format and the quality is High. Then click the Save button at the bottom of the screen.

    • Click on Finish.

  5. Apply Background Remover

    • After capturing the photo, select Background Remover.

    • Click on Gallery and select your photo from your Photos.

    • Click on Remove Automatically and wait for it to finish. If the finished photo is good click on Done and then Save.

  6. Export and Upload

  • Save the photo to your Photos.

  • If you complete the Visa Application on your phone you will have the opportunity to include the photo from your Photos app as an option to upload the Photo for Visa Application.

Tanzania Visa Photo Requirements

The photo must be colored with plain background.

The image should display unmounted full face. A “full face” photo is one in which the applicant is facing the camera directly, and present full head from top of hair to bottom of chin.

The photo should display full face (front view) from top of hair to bottom of chin, with eyes open.

The expression on the face should look natural.

There should not be any distracting shadows or images on the face or on the background.

The photo size should not exceed 45mm (length) X 35 mm (Width).

The image size of the photo should not exceed 500KB for Visa application.

The file format to be uploaded must be JPG or JPEG.
